H1N1 INFLUENZA VACCINE (Swine Flu Vaccine)

 

H1N1 Intranasal Vaccine

The H1N1 Intranasal Vaccine will be given (FREE) from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. M-F at Student Health Services. No appointment needed.

This live attenuate intranasal vaccine is sprayed into the nose and is available to people 2-49 years of age.  This vaccine should not be given to anyone with long-term health problems.

You should not get the 2009 H1N1 LAIV if you have any of the following:

  • If you have a severe  (life-threatening) allergy to eggs or any other substance in the vaccine
  • Children younger than 2 and adults 50 years and older
  • Pregnant women
  • Anyone with a weakened immune system
  • Anyone with long-term health problems such as
    • Heart Disease
    • Kidney or liver disease                                          
    • Lung Disease
    • Metabolic disease such as diabetes
    • Asthma
    • Anemia and other blood disorders
  • Anyone with certain muscle or nerve disorders
  • Persons with severely weakened immune system
  • If you are moderately or severely ill

Tell the doctor/nurse if you have ever had:

  • A life-threatening allergic reaction after a dose of seasonal flu vaccine
  • Guillain-Barre syndrome (a severe paralytic illness also called GBS)

H1N1 Vaccine for Injection

The H1N1 Vaccine for Injection will be given (FREE) from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. M-F at Student Health Services. No appointment needed.

The H1N1 Vaccine for injection is for the following priority groups (as determined by the CDC):

  • Anyone with a weakened immune system
  • Pregnant women
  • People who live with or care for an infant less than 6 months of age
  • Health care or emergency medical personnel
  • Anyone through age 24
  • Anyone from 25 through 65 years of age with certain chronic medical conditions or long-term health problems such as:

-Heart Disease     -Kidney or liver disease

-Lung Disease      -Metabolic disease such as diabetes

-Asthma              -Anemia and other blood disorders

SEASONAL FLU VACCINE

We are currently out of the Seasonal Flu Vaccine, however, we have ordered more doses and will keep you informed by email when it arrives.

 

The Seasonal Flu Vaccine is available to students (only) for a fee of $10:00.  Cash or check made out to UNCP is acceptable. Flu shots will be given M-F between 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. No appointment needed.
