2008 SGA Senator/Treasurer Elections - September 16 & 17.
Student Government is taking applications for Senator and Treasurer elections. All students with a 2.0 GPA or higher are eligible to run.
Here's how:
1. Get the Required 250 Signatures: When you vote as a senator, you represent 250 voices across campus, thus, you must be endorsed by that number from the student body. Petitions are located upstairs in UC Rm 225 or in the Office of Student Life Rm 220. Return the petition BY SEPT. 9 to the Office of Student Life.
2. Market Yourself: Because the student body will still have to vote for you, you must make them aware that you're running. Announce your candidacy in your classes, make fliers and tell students at events across campus. Tip: This is a competitive position, so get help from your friends!
3. Vote: Voting will happen on Sept. 16 & 17 online. Instructions for how to vote will be sent via email by the Office of Student Life.
Those who were elected will be notified and sworn in at the Sept. 17 Senate meeting.
For those who were not elected, there is still a chance for you to join the
Senate: You must present yourself before the Senate on Sept. 24, when senators will be able to ask questions about your background, platform, etc. YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE PRIOR SGA EXPERIENCE TO BE A SENATOR. The Senate will then vote on accepting you as a Senate member. If accepted, you will be sworn in that night and have full senator privileges.
PLEASE NOTE: senators are required to attend meetings each Wednesday at 6 p.m. in UC room 213. Each senator must also join two (2) committees: Recruitment, Student Issues, Community Service, Constitution, Finance, Interclub, Food and Elections.
I hope that you will take this opportunity to become an advocate for the student body by running for a position as senator/treasurer. I also encourage you to exercise your right to vote for your student representatives on Sept. 16 and 17.
If you have questions, please feel free to call or stop by the office of Hannah Simpson, SGA President, UC Rm 225, 910-521-6578 or the Office of Student Life, UC Rm 220, 910-521-6482.
