4. Committee Reports
a. Student Issues: Toilet seat covers will be ordered for North and Belk Halls, and there will be one location in the bathrooms on each of the floors where students get them. The commuter lounge computers are being looked into as well as the televisions in the UC mall area. These were two concerns placed in the SGA comments box. A New Washing Machine and dryer is on the second floor of Belk Hall. The designs for the on-campus apartments should be ready by the next SGA meeting (student forum) and Dean Swiney and Dr. Jones are planning to attend.
b. Food Committee: Paul Parker attended the Dining with GM tonight. Such issues that were brought up were vegetarian meals at each bar. Some hotdogs and hamburgers are vegetarian hotdogs and hamburgers. Yogurt will be served at breakfast starting tomorrow. The pizza bar will be next month and there will be remodeling at Bert’s. There will be a convenient store at the old bookstore and the cafeteria will take over it. The alarms on the door will be installed tomorrow. The request for chicken sandwiches were made rather than always hamburgers.
c. Entertainment: Red Dragon will be playing at Moore Hall tonight at 8 pm and also on Saturday and Unfaithful will be next week. Dan Levy was at UNCP last night. There were about 30-40 students in attendance. If anyone has any suggestions about the Music Fest please let Lenora Bowler or James Bass know in the Student Government office.
d. Constitution: The grievance policy will be discussed later on during the meeting.
e. Interclub: The names of the clubs and organizations were put on the mailboxes and tape labels were used. Jennifer Langley still needs to speak with Larry Freeman and there will hopefully be a meeting next Thursday. We will also be speaking about Service NC.f. Community Service: In the absence of Andrea Miyagi, the chair, Dominique Cooper gave the committee report. Service NC will be April 5th from 9-12. Senators need to sign up for jobs. There were a few changes to the T-shirts. Also, the Youth Dance will be on April 4th from 6:30-9:30. The next Teen Court will be April 10th and Campaign for Compassion is during this week and senators need to be there. We also need some senators at the Multicultural Festival for Service NC and we need guys to help with the set building.
g. Spirit: No Report
h. Public Relations: The word for the online directory needs to get out and flyers needs to be passes out. The TV show is finally finished as of today and is scheduled to come out next Wednesday.
i. Critical Mass: There was a meeting yesterday dealing with the book rental and Koji will be going up to the Faculty Senate and discussing this situation. Recycling will be held off till next year. A new issue will be “I Can Learn Math Lab” for students. Students can go to the computer lab to work on math and get assistance. This was at Richmond Community College.
j. Treasurer: No report
k. Finance: Sign a package and encourage your organizations to come and get a piece of student funding.
l. President’s Report: ASG Conference was at NC State and the biggest thing of discussion was Service NC. This is the biggest statewide project in all the state. It is mandatory on April 5th. Another issue was about the Higher Education and the Board of Governors. We do not have student representation in the meeting and therefore, ASG is trying to get a vote for the Board of Governors. They are pushing for a vote and each school was assigned 100 per school to get signed. There is a competition between State and UNCP to find out which school can get the most letters in. Also, the book rental is the last deed for the year and we are trying to convince the school about this. The online directory will be ready this Friday. Also 1.8 billion dollars of PEL Grants is being offered. We as SGA also need to take a stand about the war. WNCP is taping people’s messages for the soldiers.
Faculty Senate: Student Affairs and Campus Life Standing Committee Report March 26, 2003
On March 20, the committee met and went over the grievance policy, as well as discussed the following student issues: The intramural teams that are currently using the intramural field will be relocated to a recreation center with ball fields off campus. Dr. Jones said if students want to go to these games, and there is a need, they will provide transportation to and from the field. The homecoming semi-formal next year will have to be relocated (probably to the gym) since the UC is becoming to small. Also, a new parade route through the school will be made for next year because of the gym renovations that will be taking place.
5. Old Business
a. Student Forum: It will be April 2nd in the cafeteria and the tables will be up against the patio window. WNCP TV will be there and we need the whole Senate as a panel. Dr. Jones and Dean Swiney will be the administrators. Focus will be on student online directory, book rental, and Service NC.
b. SGA Retreat: We will leave on Thursday night and be back by Friday night. We will leave around 4 or 5 pm and spend the night there and do some goal settings.
6. New Business
a. ASG: This was already discussed about earlier in the meeting by Koji Sado.
