MINUTES FOR JANUARY 8, 2003

1. Opening Ceremony

2. Roll Call

3. Reading of Minutes

There have been corrections to the last minutes. Unexcused absences from the last meeting of last semester were Misty Fernandez, Carlton Burden, Chris Adams, and Sophoria Wrighten. This was approved unanimously by the Senate.

4. Committee Reports

1. Student Issues: No Report

2. Food: No Report

3. Entertainment: Jan. 8- XXX- 89 people. There were 200 people at the Back to School dance on Thursday night.

4. Constitution: We have the descriptions for offices and clubs that need to be put in the constitution. We need Brandon and Koji to look over it.
Our election campaign will be in February.
We are working on the grievance policy and one of our members will be attending a meeting with the faculty senate about the grievance policy.
We are also looking into the Senate Expansion.

5. Community Service: Teen Court will be at 5:30 on Thursday. There is an underage drinking dance for Palmer Prevention on Friday, February 7th from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. at Red Springs armory. A sign is needed for the beautification project from last year.

6. Interclub: No Report

7. Critical Mass: Movie Library: Policy should be finished by Paul by late this week or early next week. Brandon and others will shop for movies this Friday.
Recycling: Recycling programs at other schools was discussed. Most other schools started with can recycling since it is profitable, and then used that money to build their program. Other people/organizations already collect from the dorms so it doesn’t look like we can go that rout. Next week Rachel will bring the bins that she found on the internet. Next meeting we will invite NORML and the Biology Club b/c they are both big on recycling.
Senate Expansion: Paul is meeting with Jackie Clark to get the current student enrollment so that we can expand the senate properly.

10. President’s Goals: Information in the New Business was the President’s Goals.

6. New Business

1. Student Forum: Dates had not been set for the months of January and February. In order to get more responses, some suggestions were made:
a. Have free drawings of tickets
b. Listserve
c. Better advertisement

The proposed date for the forum is February 5th at 10 am in the UC.

2. Campus Night Walk: There was only one campus night walk with the Student Issues Committee. We want to go back and re-evaluate dark places.

3. Senate Expansion: School is growing, therefore representation of students should grow as well. As of now there are about 4,000 students. The representation in the senate shall be increased to 26 senators.

4. Make Up Dinner: This will be on Wednesday, January 22, at 5 pm at Red Lobster.

5. Alpha Phi Omega approval: This was not on the agenda. However, there was an approval for this organization on campus.

6. SGA Memo: Senators can not miss more than two unexcused meetings. In addition, committee meetings count as regular SGA meetings.

7. Announcements

1. There will be a Homecoming Candidates meeting for the King and Queen on Feb. 5th
2. There will be a Candidates meeting for SGA positions in room 213 in the UC at 4 pm on Feb. 27th.
3. Gwen Simmons will be stepping down due to furthering her academic education.
