MINUTES FOR FEBRUARY 26, 2003

4. Reading of Minutes

There were corrections to the minutes from last week. The guest speaker was from the organization NASO. In addition, the correction to the constitution committee report needs to state that dealing with the election and the representative, there will be 150 students. The minutes were then approved unanimously with the corrections added.

5. Committee Reports

A. Student Issues: Plaster will be put on the roof above the showers in Belk Hall to keep them from collapsing and also, diet drinks are in West and Belk Hall, they were probably just out of that drink when the student went there. The contract for the UC Annex has been give to a company called Pierce. At the housing lottery, they will ask students if they are interested in going over to the on-campus apartments. The lottery is still being used as a backup, just in case something goes wrong with the project.

B. Food Committee: The first meeting was on the 25th of February. Selena Craig met with Mike and discussed the following: ticket night, which will be on March 27th and staff requirement to wear gloves for ready foods such as sandwiches. However, the bar does not require the staff to wear gloves. Yet he will talk to his staff about cleanliness and being nice in general. He will put more boiled eggs on the salad bar. When we come back from spring break, on March 17th he plans on having something for St. Patrick’s Day. He doesn’t know if it will be like last years though. On March 13th there will be a jello dessert bar. If your birthday is in the month of March, on the 20th one can sign their name on the cake.

C. Entertainment: Open Mic Night will be on Tuesday, March 10th at 8 pm. One hour photo is playing in Moore Hall at 9 pm. There will be no movie on Saturday because of spring break.

D. Constitution: No report

E. Interclub: No report

F. Community Service: Teen Court is on Thursday at 5:30. The committee is working on Service NC with SADD. They’re also going to try Calvin’s Y.E.L.L. in collaboration with Palmer. There will be a town council meeting next month. Alphonza will be attending the meeting.

G. Spirit: No report

H. Public Relations: SGA Cribs spotlight will be broken up into three segments. The third segment will be the homecoming interview with Theresa Vitek in the studio. Student Issues will be on March 19th and it will be a press conference in the Cafeteria. Or the senate might have it during ticket night.

I. Critical Mass: No report

J. Treasurer’s Report: the budget was presented in the senate. It will be submitted into the Pine Needle

K. President’s Report: Koji Sado went over the Homecoming report. There were over 150 students at the Student and Faculty basketball game. There were also over 200 students at the Weekend Excursion. And there were 30-40 organizations at the pep rally, thanks to Dominique. On Friday during the Homecoming dance, there were over 200 people. The total attendance was close to doubled highest attendance, which was last year. Jermaine Thomas was also the Homecoming King.

7. New Business

A. SGA Elections: If anyone wanting a position on SGA, there will be a meeting tomorrow in the SGA room at 4.
B. UNC-TV: This will take place from February 22-March 30. They need volunteers to answer phones, it will be a telethon on UNC-TV. March 22nd is when UNCP will be going.
