Susan Whitt was added to the agenda last minute. She discussed the videos that are now available at the library to rent out. The only thing is the student needs a library account.
4. Committee Reports
a. Student Issues: In our Student Forum last week, a student wanted to know why the third floor of West Hall was going to be case next year instead of the first floor? Dr. Jones: The reason the decision was made was the students living on the case floor expected a quieter, clearer, smoke-free, alcohol free environment. Because there are so many entrances to West Hall, residents on the second and third floor were cutting through first floor to get to their respective floors. Case floor was changed to third floor to provide the desired atmosphere. In addition, we needed to identify some additional areas for case. We picked up an additional eight (8) rooms for case by making this change. Another student wanted to know if there was any way that additional African history classes could be offered? Dr. Jones: This is an academic matter and would need to be addressed with Academic Affairs Vice Chancellor. Also do you have any updates on the new apartments, and the UC annex (Would there be a time that you could present this information to the SGA)? Dr. Jones: Architectures indicated they would have some designs for us next week. We are being diligent in requesting this information. We will present this information to SGA at the earliest possible date. An Annex Planning meeting is scheduled for April 17. Keep in mind that this project is a two-year project and we are still in the initial stage. Do you have any updates on the commuter lounge computers and the televisions in the UC mall area? Dr. Jones: The big screen TV has torn up and cannot be repaired. Cynthia Oxendine, UC Director, will be purchasing a new TV. She is currently researching vendors. Computers in the commuter lounge have been repaired. Three computers were out of order.
b. Food Committee: Had a meeting with Mike. There will be more vegetarian meals. Dine with GM is on Wednesday the 16th and there will be a possible band on the patio.
c. Entertainment: Open Mic Night is Monday at 8 pm at the UC. Transformed is playing tonight in Pine Hall at 8 pm and Sunday at 8 pm in Moore Hall. As far as the music fest, they have been talking with Ray Thomas from Power 107 to host it. Right now they are looking at him hosting the music fest and he will bring two, possible three, groups to perform. The café will be serving food also. The music fest is on Wednesday, April 30th at 5 pm.
d. Constitution: No report
e. Interclub: No report
Community Service: Thanked senators that attended the Service NC. About 150 people were out there and there was enough food for everyone. Multicultural festivities moved inside when it started raining. Teen Court will be at Lumberton Courthouse. Also the Youth Dance on the 4th went well. However, there were only about 20-25 students that attended.f. Spirit: No Report
g. Public Relations: Shannon and Alphonza finished the SGA box and are putting SGA Times and the list of the movies at the library in it. However, a little more information is needed about Service NC and pics as well.
h. Critical Mass: The Movie Library was kicked off and SGA will be putting $500 a year to spend on movies. Critical mass is to pick out the movies and it is open to faculty and students. No movie is over 5 years.
i. Treasurers: No report
j. Finance: No report
k. President’s Report: Need to know who is going on the retreat. It is next Thursday and details will be given next meeting. Also, SGA adopted a resolution to support the troops in Iraq. In addition, the book rental will be left for next year’s administration. There were 155 Campaign letters. Jennifer Langley got a lot of apartments. Dr. Jones had something to ask the senate. UNCP was given 50 yellow ribbons to put on campus and this would be perfect for SGA. This is to support the troops. In addition, there are only two more meetings left.
5. Old Business
SGA retreat: already discussed
6. New Business
a. Student Attorney: Alphonza Thomas discussed this issue. Brad Trogdon came to him discussing how the school needs to have a school attorney. UNCP used to have it but it turned into the judicial board. Student attorney would act as a laison. However, this is too late to deal with this year for SGA. This would have to go through the Faculty Senate Board.
b. Family Day: It is this weekend on Saturday from 10-2. It is sponsored by SGA
c. Installation Banquet: It is on Wednesday, April 23rd at 6 pm. Awards will be given out.
d. Senator of the Year: Senators voted on the Senator of the Year. The results will be given at the banquet.
