MINUTES FOR APRIL 16, 2003

1. Opening Ceremony

2. Roll Call

3. Reading of Minutes:

The last minutes in the committee report should have been “Transporter” rather than “Transformed.” The minutes were read and with the corrections were unanimously approved by the senate.

4. Guest Speaker:

Dr. Jones and Dean Swiney went over the tentative apartments on campus. Mills Constructions is working on the apartment. It will be known as University Village Apartments. There is a 9 month lease and it will be about $3,450 total. The lease will run from August 23 to May 8. There are comprised of three double bedrooms, a kitchen, three bathrooms, a living room, study, and a sunroom. There will also be open visitation. However, this is still tentative.

5. Committee Reports

a. Student Issues: The following are the answers to last week’s questions: The basketball rims have been ordered and have arrived. Mr. Tony Chavis has notified the physical plant to install the rims. Toilet seat liners have been installed in the dorms. Additionally the gravel on University Drive have been leveled temporarily and the state will be coming out to make permanent repairs on the road later. The floor in the library’s computer lab were scheduled to be repaired this morning.

b. Food Committee: Jennifer met with Mike and talked about issues. Breakfast will not be served till 9:30. Vegetarian meals without beans will be served. Dine with GM was today and there was a good turnout. They also discussed the time issue in the cafeteria.

c. Entertainment: The CAB movie tonight is “Antoine Fisher” and it will be at 8 pm in Moore Hall. There will be no movie playing Saturday. “Antoine Fisher” will play again on the 23rd next Wednesday at 8 pm in Moore Hall. Open Mic Night was on Monday at 8 pm in the UC. However, there was not a good turnout.

d. Constitution: Still going through the last stages of the grievance policy

e. Interclub: Jennifer Langley needs the updated information of all organizations.

f. Community Service: Melanie Clark has organized a roadside cleanup on Tuesday, April 22nd from 10-1. It deals with “Keep Robeson Clean”, the “Clean and Green

g. Spirit: No Report

h. Public Relations: No Report

i. Critical Mass: No Report

j. Finance Committee: No Report

k. Treasurer’s Report: No Report

l. President’s Report: Need committee chair’s annual committee reports. ASG conference was at Fayetteville State University. Tuition will increase 5% next year. They are working on police jurisdiction integration at apartments off campus.

6. Old Business

a. SGA Retreat: There are people from the senate and CAB going on the retreat. It will be at Carowinds.

b. Installation Banquet: It will be on April 23rd at 6 pm.

7. New Business

a. Student of the Month:

March: Calvin Webster

b. Club Approval: The Art Club by Pembroke Art Association has 21 members and wants to be approved to be a recognized club. This was approved by the senate.

c. Dorm Concern: Belk supervisor, Mrs. Pat, got injured by intruders last weekend. On behalf of SGA, we would like to recognize her bravery at the banquet with a plaque.

a. There is pizza afterwards
b. Family Day had a turnout of 502
c. Alpha Week is before exams
d. Ribbons need to be put around campus
