Birth, Development, Maturity, Aging, Senescense and Death are developmental markers and biological processes shared by all human beings. Aging takes place in the peson as a whole, at the organ-system level, at the level of tissues, and at the levels of cells and molecules. Between 30 yrs and 80 yrs old, human aging is marked by deterioration and decline of ALL systems except personality. An examination of the aging cell illustrates the capacity of biogerontology to separate changes due to aging from damage caused by injury and the diseases of the elderly. Death can be post-poned and quality of life enhanced with the delay of disease. Life span is actually lengthened -- at the cellular level and at the level of individual life -- with any delay of senescense.
