lost and found
Items that have been found should be turned in to the Student Affairs Office, 242 Lumbee Hall, 910-521-6226, within 24 hours of receipt. After this time period the chances of returning the item to its owner decrease dramatically. The hours of the Student Affairs Office are 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday, except during nationally recognized holidays during which time the office is closed.
To report a lost or stolen item, please call or come by our office and give us a description of the item and contact information to enable us to contact you if an item sufficiently matching your description is turned in to our office.
To claim an item, please call or drop by our office with an adequate description of the item. Proper identification must be submitted before the item in question may be turned over to the Claimee.
Items that are reported as lost/stolen, or found and turned over to the office, are dated and posted above under the categories, "lost or stolen property," and "found property." Efforts will be made to match found items with reported missing items, in addition to posting on the web. However, please be aware that this is the extent of the service and no further effort will be made to locate the owner of any items that have been turned in to our office. If you have lost something, please check the web site periodically to see if such an item has been turned in.
Items which have been found will be stored and held for a period of thirty (30) days, from the date of receipt. After this thirty-day time period, if an item has not been claimed, it shall be deemed abandoned and will be donated to a charitable organization if determined to have any value, or discarded if deemed to have no discernable value.
When an owner of an item has been notified that their property has been found, that individual will have a period of two weeks from the date of notification to retrieve said item from the Student Affairs Lost and Found. After the two week period, items will be deemed abandoned and will be donated to a charitable organization if determined to have any value, or discarded if deemed to have no discernable value. If arrangements are made with the agreement of the Student Affairs Office, items identified during breaks will be held for the duration of the break through two weeks of the of the current semester. If arrangements are made with the agreement of the Student Affairs Office, items identified during the summer months will be held for the duration of the summer through the first two weeks of the following fall semester.
Descriptions of items that have been reported as lost or stolen will be kept for a period of six (6) months and then discarded.
The lost and found department is maintained as a service to students, faculty, and staff of UNCP and reflects the status of items acquired by or called in to the Student Affairs office in accordance with the establishment of this function within the office. UNCP and its employees, including the Student Affairs office and its staff, assume no responsibility or liability for the condition or care of any items, past, present, or future and no responsibility or liability for delivery of any item to any person who falsely or erroneously claims the item is his property.
