Graduation Information

2008 Spring Commencement
May 3, 2008 at 10:00 a.m.

 

Where will the ceremony be held?
The graduation ceremony will be held on the grounds of the soccer field next to Lumbee Hall.

Where do I get my graduation tickets?
You may pick up your tickets from the Registrar’s Office in Lumbee Hall, if you did not receive them at Grad Finale.  The last day to pick up tickets is Friday, April 25th.  Please do not expect your tickets to be available after this date.

How many tickets can I get?
You will receive eight (8) tickets.  We recommend that you plan your list of guests using this number.  The amount is determined by the number of graduates and the seating capacity of the facility used.

How do I get extra tickets?
No extra tickets are guaranteed and we cannot tell if any will be available until the Friday before graduation.  If all graduates pick up their tickets, no extras will be available.  On Friday, May 2nd, we will distribute what we have on a first come-first serve basis (only two [2] per candidate) from 8:00 a.m. – until they last.  We will not “hold” any tickets.

Can I have my tickets mailed to me?
Yes.  You must make your request in writing with your signature to the Registrar’s Office along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

Can someone pick up my tickets for me?
Yes, with your written and signed permission.  Please indicate the person’s name picking up the tickets on your request, and also have them to bring a picture I. D. with them.

Will handicapped seating be available for guests?
Yes.  Please inform Ms. Mary Helen Walker, Director of Disability Services, telephone number (910) 521-6695, in the
D. F. Lowry Building, that handicapped seating will be needed.  Also, inform the Marshals when you arrive for graduation.

Do children require tickets?
Yes, unless they are small enough to be held for the entire ceremony.  If they require a seat, they must have a ticket.

What should I wear?  There is no official dress code; we trust that you will dress appropriately.

Do we walk across the stage individually?
Yes.  When your name is called, you will walk across the stage and receive your diploma cover.

When do I get my actual diploma?
Your actual diploma will be mailed to you after final grades have been processed and you have been cleared for graduation.

When, where and how do I line up?
You will line up alphabetically by degree and by school in the auxiliary gym in the Jones Health and P. E. Center.  UNCP staff will be there to assist you.  You will also receive correspondence from various offices that will give you information. Be sure to read all correspondence from all campus offices carefully so you will know what you need to do.

How long does the ceremony last?   About two (2) hours.
