2010 PURC SYMPOSIUM

The Pembroke Undergraduate Research and Creativity Center Advisory Council is very proud to announce its fourth annual campus-wide celebration of undergraduate research and creative scholarship, scheduled for Wednesday, April 7 .  Student participation and presentations are invited from all scholarly fields and disciplines.  This is a wonderful opportunity for you to share your scholarly activities with your peers, faculty members and university administrators.

Presentation Formats:

1. Students are encouraged to adapt their presentations to the standard poster format.  Easels, poster boards (3 x 4 ft) and push pins will be provided at the Forum.  Posters must be printed prior to the event.  The PURC Center will conduct a Poster Preparation Workshop on Wednesday March 24, from 11:30-12:30.  Presenters will be notified of the location for this workshop upon abstract submission.

2. Oral presentations will be accepted for as well this year. Presentations will be limited to 15 minutes, including 3 minutes for questions. Students are encouraged to prepare PowerPoint slide show to accompany their talk.

3. Scholarly Performance/Film, Music or Video Productions are also welcome. Students will present their performance. Each presenter will have a total of 15 minutes for the performance and questions/answers, using any combination of up to 15 minutes to best highlight their work. For example, you could have a 5 minute performance and take 10 minutes to answer questions. We will provide a TV/VCR/DVD combo if needed.

4. Exhibit/Displays are welcome for those in the visual arts. All exhibits will be displayed in the same room as the posters. Please advise the staff of your needs-such as a pedestal, or a need to hang on wall.

 

Abstract Submission:

To participate in the PURC Symposium you will need to submit an abstract of your presentation. (See the link to the right for abstract preparation or look at the old programs below for examples.) We'll begin accepting abstracts in February, 2010.

Before you being your abstract submission, you'll need to be prepared to answer questions about you and your co-presentors, as well as your faculty mentor. Make sure you have your mentor's approval of your abstract prior to submission.
