| A group of students founded the UNCP Ultimate Frisbee Team and participated in their first intercollegiate tournament at Sandhills Community College. Later the team was able to organize and host its own tournament at UNCP. Those playing here are Miles McGirt, Ahmad Mohsen in the air, Joey Buonoconti, and Michael Bailey. |
Walter "Rashaad" Saunders was an outstanding wrestler as an undergraduate at UNCP. Now, as a graduate student in the Physical Education program, he has found an additional passion known as Ultimate Frisbee.
This sport is one of the fastest growing on college campuses and is predicted to be the next NCAA intercollegiate sport.
Ultimate, as it is officially called, is a game that resembles football, soccer and basketball.
This year, Saunders led a group of students who founded a student organization, the UNCP Ultimate Frisbee Team. Saunders is the founding president and undergraduates Anthoni Clegg (Criminal Justice) and Ravi Patel (Accounting) serve as vice president and treasurer. The faculty sponsor is Dr. Eric Dent (Management, Marketing, and International Business).
- The team participated in its first intercollegiate tournament held at Sandhills Community College on March 17.
- The team then was able to organize and host its own tournament at UNCP on April 21.
Ultimate is a fun and fast sport that can be played together by people from ages 10 and up.
Information about the UNCP Ultimate Frisbee Team is available from Rashaad Saunders at wrs001@bravemail.uncp.edu
