Lady Braves grab fourth-straight win

In a defensive struggle at home, the UNCP women's basketball squad held on to their fourth consecutive victory over a conference opponent with a 54-50 victory over Peach Belt Conference foe Georgia College on Jan. 22.
The Lady Braves allowed the Bobcats to shoot 39.6 percent from the field and only made 33.3 percent of their field goal attempts.
The Black and Gold gained the advantage over their opponents by forcing 14 turnovers and scored 21 points off of the visiting team's turnovers.
Led by freshman for- ward Jazmine Kemp, who finished with a game-high eight rebounds, UNCP was able to grab two more rebounds than Georgia College. UNCP's reserve players also scored 14 points in limited minutes, compared to just 10 points by their opposition.
Senior guard Domonique Washington and junior forward Courtney Bolton both had a team-high 10 points for the Black and Gold.
In 40 minutes of action, Washington exhibited her defensive prowess with six rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks. Amelia Partin scored nine points coming off the bench for the Lady Braves, making three of her seven three-point attempts.
"First of all I knew it was going to be a battle coming in," UNCP head coach John Haskins said.
"They are hard to score against, they are good defensively and the did a good job defending us. I thought everyone did some little things. Courtney did some little things when she needed to, Kemp got some hustle plays and got some rebounds. Dominique got a couple big plays including off a steal and for the layup," he added.
Freshman guard Shanteona Keys scored a game-high 17 points for the Bobcats, and also registered six assists and five rebounds.
Georgia College freshman forward Enisha Donley finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.
