First half offense leads to first PBC victory

Using a dominating performance on both sides of the ball, the Lady Braves were able to capture their first conference win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Georgia Southwestern on Sept. 7.

UNCP's defense held the Hurricanes to just three total shots on goal while the Black and Gold posted 27 shots with nine on goal.

Both goals for the visiting Lady Braves came in the first half of play within five minutes of each other.

Amalia Arvidsson scored her third goal in three games 31 minutes into the game. Arvidsson headed a free kick from Fanny Foresman into the goal past Georgia Southwestern goalie Amber Bahri.

Arvidsson posted nine shots on goal to lead the way for the Black and Gold.

At the 36 minute mark, the Lady Braves struck again as Elke Groothuis scored past the Hurricane goalie after receiving a pass over the defense from Andrea Collen. The goal was the second on the season for Groothuis.

Brittany Bennett recorded her second shutout of the year after recording 11 last season. Bennett's counterpart Bahri totaled seven saves in her 90 minutes between the pipes for the Hurricanes.

The Lady Braves also recorded more cornerkicks than the Hurricanes by a total of seven to one.

The Black and Gold will look to defend their unblemished record as they travel to Tusculum on Sept. 12 before heading back home to continue PBC play versus Montevallo.
