The UNCP women’s soccer team couldn’t muster any offense Oct. 13 against the Peach Belt Conference unbeaten Lander Lady Bearcats.
In a contest that Lady Braves’ head coach Lars Andersson called “not smart and unorganized” UNCP lost 1-0 against the Lander Bearcats.
“We didn’t play well in the first half,” Andersson said. “It was a tale of two halves. We didn’t come out ready to play in the first half but I thought we dominated time of possession in the second.”
UNCP (7-4-1, 0-4-1 PBC) remains winless in Peach Belt Conference action despite nine shots on goal.
The Lady Braves continued their defensive dominance, holding the opposition to one goal, an unassisted corner kick from Lady Bearcat Jannica Finnberg,
Lander (8-2-0, 5-0-0 PBC) won its fifth conference game in a row, narrowly escaping the upset at Varsity Grounds.
“We needed this game,” said Andersson. “We haven’t won any conference games so far this season, and we needed this one badly. We had a lot of good opportunities that we just didn’t capitalize on and their goalkeeper made some great saves.”
