Women’s softball signs three high school players for 2007- 08 UNC Pembroke head softball coach Steve Johnson has signed three new players: Carissa Dancer, Christy Freeland and Courtney Hill to national letters of intent for the 2007-08 school year.“We're very excited about all three of these student-athletes,”said Johnson.“This is the most athletic group we have signed here during my time. Each of these student-athletes can play multiple positions for us.” Dancer, an infielder from Hayesville, N.C., plays for Hayesville High School. During her junior season, Dancer hit .593 while also turning in a .630 on-base percentage. She also earned all-conference honors, was a NCHSAA scholar-athlete and won the outstanding player award. “Carissa will bring a lot of speed and another left-handed bat to our line-up,” Johnson said. Freeland, an outfielder from Asheville, N.C., plays for Enka High School. She hit .390 with five home runs while earning a .900 fielding percentage as a junior. “Christy is a pure athlete who can go out and play pretty much anywhere on the field,” added Johnson. Hill, a 5-10 infielder from Goldsboro, N.C., plays at Rosewood High School. Hill hit .340 while earning All-Conference and All-Area Honorable Mentions as a junior. She also garnered an on-base percentage of .364. “Courtney is a strong hitter who will be counted on to use her size and strength at the plate,” Johnson said. —UNCP |
