UNCP athletes collect numerous awards By Dan Kelly
Brown scored four goals and had five assists on the season. Staackman was put on the All-Conference team for the second straight season. Brown and Staackman were also placed on the Daktronics Southeast Region team along with midfielder Miguel Ferrer. Ferrer had four goals and four assists on the year. This is also Staackman’s second straight selection to the All-Region team. Defender Steve Locker was named to the PBC All-Tournament team for his play in the Braves tournament game against USC Upstate. The men’s team finished the season with a record of 7-8-2 and a PBC record of 4-3 for a final standing of fifth in the conference. UNCP women’s soccer forward Melanie Cobb was the only award winner for the team but was recognized in all three categories. Cobb is a PBC All-Conference, a first-team Daktronics Southeast Region player and was also selected for a PBC All-Tournament award. She finished the season with 12 goals—four being game winners—and six assists. The women’s team finished the season 7-11-1 and a 3-5-1 conference record that left the Braves in sixth place. The men’s and women’s cross-country teams had four runners selected to the PBC All-Conference team. On the women’s squad, Katerina Matousova, Tierra McIntosh and Ivy Ramsey were all named to the team. Justin Gordon was the only runner from the men’s team to make All-Conference. The men’s and women’s teams finished at fourth place in the PBC championship meet. |
