Women win Carolinas track meet

The UNCP women won the season-ending Carolinas Track and Field Championship held on April 21 at the Belk Athletic Complex of the UNCP campus.

The five additional schools that competed in the competition were Methodist College, Morris College, Claflin University, Coker College and Voorhees College.            
           
During the competition, UNCP had numerous individuals standout to help the teams to their first and second-place finishes.            

Women’s results

The women’s other victories came from Tierra Sinclair in the 100-meter dash, Jamaisha Ward in the 400-meter hurdles and Tierra Carpenter in the javelin throw.            

Men’s results            
           
Giovanni Bilotta was the only victor on the men’s side with his winning performance in the 5000-meter race.

The Braves Antoine Stanley finished second in the 800-meter run and third in the 1500-meter run.            

Lynwood Cox finished second place in the triple jump and Calvin King also finished second in the hammer throw.            

Claflin University won the men’s competition and second place on the women’s side.            
           
The coaches of both of the teams were honored.                  
           
UNCP coach Larry Rodgers was named the Carolinas Championship coach of the year for the women’s performance while Claflin coach Jeffery Hughes received the same award for his men’s team performance.
