Baseball beats Augusta State in final Peach Belt series

The Braves took two of three games from the Augusta State Jaguars at Jaguar field on April 21 and  April 22.             

The series win was their first in the Peach Belt for the season.            

Augusta kicked off the first game of the series with a three-run first inning, but didn't score again until the sixth.             
           
The Braves, in that time, put seven on the board.            

UNCP would go on to score five more in the eighth after Jason Morales knocked two in while Chris Beck, Adam Hamrick and Josh Bentley each knocked in one.             
           
The Braves put two more on the board in the ninth to make the final score 14-4.            

Dave Cockroft (5-3) earned the win for the Braves by pitching a complete game, giving up four earned runs while striking out six.
           
Tyler Godwin (1-2) took the loss for Augusta after giving up seven runs (six earned) in 4.2 innings of work.            

Beck was 3-for-4 on the day hitting, with three RBIs and three runs scored, while Morales hit home run number seven on the season to highlight a 3-for-6, four RBI showing.            
           
Augusta started the scoring in Sunday's game two of the series, putting across one run in the bottom of the first.  Again, though, the Braves held them scoreless – this time until the seventh. 

Over those innings, the Braves put 10 runs of their own on the board, scoring one in the second and three in the third, fourth and sixth innings.            

The Braves, however, weren't done, yet.            
           
In the top of the eighth inning, Kevin Dietrich reached on a double and Derek Funk was hit by a pitch.            

After Jeff Adams struck out swinging, Morales came to bat and blasted a second home run in the series, lifting his season total to eight.             
           
The Braves would not score any more runs, ending the game at 13-2.            

Brian Willis (4-4) pitched a solid game, giving up only two runs and three hits eight innings of work.                  
           
Ryan Emmett (4-6) was the losing pitcher for the Jaguars after being credited with 10 of the runs given up (eight earned) through six innings of work.
           
The Braves were the first to jump on the board in game three, putting across one run in the first  when Dietrich crossed the plate on an error.            

The Jaguars, however, would put two across in their half of the first and then one more in the third to put them up 3-1.                The Braves would answer back in the fifth, though, and score two more runs of their own to tie the game 3-3.            

The pitching on both sides would hold the game at 3-3 and take it to extra innings, where Augusta State managed to put a run across in the bottom of the 10th, giving them the 4-3 win.            
           
Cody Crotts (2-4) took the loss for the Braves after surrendering a single run in the bottom of the 10th after 7.2 innings of work.
