Braves go 1-2 against USC Aiken Pacers

Braves baseball beat the visiting USC Aiken Pacers 3-2  at Sammy Cox field on March 11.            

The 12-inning game that started at 1 p.m. and lasted until nearly 4 p.m. was a pitchers duel throughout with neither team allowing a run to cross the plate until the sixth inning.              

First Runs

Photo by Glory Attaochu Cody Crotts gave up five hits and one unearned run to earn a win in the Braves' 3-1 victory over Barton.

Deadlock            
           
Neither team scored again until the 11th inning, when Chris Sheehan came to the plate and hit a homerun to put the Pacers up 2-1.            

However, Dietrich, who had homered in two of his previous three games, answered back with a bomb of his own over the left field fence to tie the game.

Inning 12

In the 12th inning, the Braves then came to the plate and Jeff Adams  struck out swinging.            
           
The DH, Adam Hamrick, started it off with a single to the right side and was replaced with a pinch runner, Ty Morris.            

Morris made his way to second on a wild pitch and to third after a ground out from Jay Bowman.             
           
Tom Poricelli, who came in to play third base after Chris Beck was ejected in the fifth inning, then came to bat.

He placed the ball in right field, knocking Morris in for the game-winning RBI.            

Winning/Losing Pitchers            
           
Brian Willis (3-0) earned the win for the Braves after allowing one earned run and four hits in four innings of relief.              

Jordan Carter, the starting pitcher for the Braves, scattered seven hits and one unearned run over 8 innings of work. 

The Braves lost the March 10 double-header  to the Pacers.            

Dave Cockroft  took the loss in a 10-7 game one and Cody Crotts was the losing pitcher in a 6-0 game two.

Since Feb. 22

At home, The Braves were swept by Georgia College, losing 8-0, 2-1 and 13-3 on Feb. 24 and 25.            

The three losses were followed by three wins.

First, a 3-1 victory at home over Barton, a 10-2 win at St. Andrews on March 1 and a win in game one of a three game series at Lander.          

The Braves lost the last two games of the Lander series, 20-3 and 3-1 on March 3 and 4.

Finally, the Braves traveled to Barton on March 7 and won 15-8, then to Claflin and won 12-0 on March 8.
