Losing streak hits 12 for men’s basketball By Joel Beachum Men’s basketball dropped its 12th straight game on Feb. 6 in a 78-61 loss at Francis Marion. The loss drops the Braves to 4-16 overall and 1-12 in Peach Belt play, while Francis Marion improves to 9-11 overall and 4-9 in the PBC. Junior Lee Moore led the Braves with 13 points while senior Jeff Brown chipped in 12 on 4-4 shooting from beyond the arc. Francis Marion’s Michael Jenkins scored game-highs with 22 points and six three-pointers. Following the Braves' 101-77 loss to North Georgia College & State on Feb. 4, the key phrase being used was "we have to figure it out." What they were talking about was figuring out a way to get back in the win column. "This is a tough league to compete in. We've got to get a lot better and we've got to figure out another way to win," head coach Jason Tinsley said. Tinsley took nothing away from the competition, but did say the team has to execute better. Several players did show improvement in the game, according to Tinsley. "Cortez Brown played well. Jawann Baker played better today. Chris Campbell played better in spurts," he added. Brown finished with five points and five rebounds in the game. Baker added seven points, six assists and three steals. Chris Campbell was the team's leading scorer for the game putting in 11 points and grabbing two rebounds. Jarrell Hunter finished the game with 10 points and four rebounds. “We just have to try and come out every single day and get ready. Coach always stresses that it is a building process," junior Mark Salazar said. North Georgia’s Mark Causey scored 14 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out seven assists and had six steals on his way to PBC Player of the Week honors. |
