Women’s basketball hits slight skid, four-game win streak comes to end

The UNCP women's basketball team has recently lost two consecutive games after a previous four-game win streak.

Both losses came to Peach Belt opponents, Columbus State, by a score of 59-48, and USC Aiken, 60-48.

The Braves have an overall record of 10-6 and are 5-4 in the Peach Belt Conference.

The Braves had a 30-19 deficit at halftime, but couldn't come back due to the continued efficient shooting of the Cougars, who shot 44 percent overall and 48 percent in the second half.

Senior Lindsay Bartholf led the Braves in scoring with 18 points, all of which came from beyond the arc.

The only other Brave to reach double figures was senior Kristin Vaughan, with 10 points.

Cherona Walker led the Cougars with 12 points. The rest of the Columbus State squad had the majority of their scoring relatively spread out, as five Cougars finished with eight points each.

It was the first home loss of the year for the Braves.

The Cougars stand at 10-7 overall and 3-4 in the PBC.

The Jan. 18 game at USC-Aiken saw the Braves have another poor shooting day, at 32 percent for the game.

The poor shooting wasn't a result of any extraordinary defensive play by the Lady Pacers, but the Braves just didn't capitalize on decent shots, head coach John Haskins said.

The Braves reliance on outside shooting makes them a very beatable team when the shots simply aren't falling, according to Haskins.

The rebounding played a large part in the game as well, with USC-Aiken out- rebounding Pembroke 42-22.
