By Oliver Forde
The men’s basketball team dropped their seventh game in a row in a 68-63 loss to Columbus State on Jan. 2.
Junior Lee Moore led the Braves in scoring with 13 points, hitting three from beyond the arc.
Jarrell Hunter added eight points and 10 rebounds for the Braves.
The Braves traveled to USC-Aiken on Jan. 18 and were defeated by the Pacers by an 89-76 score.
Chris Campbell, Mark Salazar and Hunter all reached double digits, but the outside attack provided by USC-Aiken proved to be too powerful for the Braves to overcome. The Pacers nailed 12 three-pointers on the night.
Campbell led the Braves in scoring with 15, while Salazar and Hunter added 14 and 12, respectively.
The Pacers started the game off by taking a commanding lead with a barrage of three point shots.
Salazar kicked off a 12-7 scoring run for the Braves by nailing a shot from beyond the arc. The run helped UNCP reduce the deficit to one.
Pacers starters Josh Poston and Kenny Burr hit back with consecutive threes which squashed the scoring drive. The game remained tight up until halftime, with the gap narrowing down to a four point USC-Aiken lead.
The Pacers started the second half on a 10-0 run and the game seemed to steadily drift out of the Braves favor.
A good portion of the Pacer's offense came from Richard Blocker who hit five three point shots and ended the night with a game-high total of 19 points.
Though the game was yet another in a string of conference losses for the Braves, it served as the first Peach Belt win for USC-Aiken, who was on a similar losing streak having lost their last nine games before they faced the Braves. The Pacers now stand at 3-10 overall with a 1-6 conference record.
