UNCP’s
athletics’ department has a sparkling new and improved website.
The athletics’ website first launched into cyber space on
Aug. 16. Since then, nearly 5,000 people have viewed the site.
The website
showcases the latest news and events on all of UNCP’s men
and women’s sports’ teams. It also presents the latest
news for the spirit squads, which include the cheerleading squad,
the dance team and the pep band.
Lawrence Locklear,
Special Assistant to Chancellor, designed the website’s colorful
look. Rikki Cockrell, however, is the one who maintains the site.
Cockrell is the Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations.
She adds daily updates to the latest sports’ information.
Cockrell said
UNCP always had one of the best athletics’ websites among
the schools in Division II and the university wants to keep it that
way. According to Cockrell, the design of the site is usually updated
every four years or so. “We want to stay fresh and up with
the time,” Cockrell said.
The site includes
the department’s mission statement and a directory for the
athletic staff and coaches. Also, a detailed description of the
Athletic Training Program, an online store, Braves Club and the
current news on past UNCP athletes-Wall of Honor are other features
on the site.
The newest additions
to the site are the Record Book, Live Stats and the Athletics’
Calendar. The Record Book allows viewers to view the team’s
past and present records as well as individual honors. Viewers can
also see coaching records on this link.
Live Stats lets
viewers see players’ statistics in a game while the game is
in progress. Live Stats is available for baseball, men and women’s
basketball, men and women’s soccer, softball and volleyball.
The Athletics’
Calendar displays the upcoming events in sports. The calendar enables
viewers to look weeks and months ahead to the upcoming sports’
events, which will be very helpful to a lot of people.
The new website,
as a whole, will be very beneficial to everyone-students, faculty,
athletes, recruits, alumni and many others.
Cockrell and
other UNCP staff are very excited about the new site. The fresh
new site can be seen by logging on to www.uncp.edu/athletics.
