team prepares for season

It appears that
the UNCP men’s basketball team has a lot of things
to look
forward to compared to last season’s record.
One of the most
important things is getting that first victory under
their belts, then going on from there taking it one game at a time.
There is only room for improvement for the team after last season’s
horrific 0-28 season.
“We will
win some games,” junior forward Greg Joyner said. He is feeling
very
confident with the additional talent and depth of the team for the
upcoming season.
The team returns
five players from last season, and added nine new players who are
all hoping to gain experience on the court this year.
So what has
the team been working on during the off-season to help have a more
successful season?
Senior forward
Damien Goodman said that weight training, along with strengthen
and conditioning exercises during the off-season has helped to bring
the team closer together to work cooperatively.
“We train
more which gives us more time and experience with each other which
helps builds a better nucleus to make us stronger,” Goodman
said.
Head Coach Bryan
Garmroth says doesn’t want to compare this season to last
season. Holding the all time NCAA record for consecutive losses
in any sport, this is understandable.
“Lets
have a good season this year and keep last season in the past,”
Garmroth said. “The team now is going through individual (workouts)
in groups of four, two days a week for one hour compiled with weight
training three days a week and conditioning for three days just
for the first month.
Coach Garmroth
says he wants the team to be the “best team we can be with
the talent we have.”
