The UNCP men’s
basketball team is preparing for the 2003-2004 season and it appears
that they have their work cut out for them.
It seems that
history is repeating itself because four players have already quit
during the pre-season.
Head Coach Bryan Garmroth is looking forward to the upcoming season.
He seems to be very excited about the upcoming season and would
like for his players to realize the opportunity they have.
“College
basketball isn’t for everybody,” Assistant Coach Jason
Tinsley said.
The new assistant
coach doesn’t take losing lightly and is determined on building
a winning program.
Last year the
team finished last in the Peach Belt Conference with a 0-28 record.
This was the longest losing streak in the school’s history.
Pembroke’s
basketball coaches have been constantly working to make sure this
team doesn’t make the same mistakes as last year.
When they’re
not working individually with players in the gym or conditioning
out on the track, they are recruiting players and thinking of new
ways to better the team.
Aside from the
physical aspect, players need a strong mind to become a winning
team. The coaches teach players that developing a good work ethic
will definitely prepare these players for life after college.
“We have
improved a lot from last year and with our new additions we can
only get better,” senior Damien Goodman said.
Players, both
new and old, understand that they will have to work very hard to
develop team chemistry if they want to be successful this season.
The men have
been trying their best to strengthen the team and are highly anticipating
the approaching season.
Tip-off for
the first game will be Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. against Morris College.
