Intramural athletics underway

By Myra Frederick

Intramural athletics are open to all current UNCP students. The flag football season is already under way.

“Football is one of my biggest intramural sports,” said intramural director Tony Chavis. Intramural football is comprised of 12 teams who play flag football among one another. These teams consist of males and females.

“To give students who can’t compete on a varsity level something to do,” Chavis said is the purpose of UNCP’s intramural sports. He also said that intramural sports are all about having fun. It appears that they will do just that and more.

Intramurals are available in almost every sport, including soccer, golf and swimming. The first swim meet for intramurals will be on Sept. 16. Participants will compete in five different events. Basketball is another popular sport with both males and females in the intramural program. Every year Chavis picks an all-star team of men and women to play in tournaments.
