Support your local library

Any student who checks out movies, CD’s and books at the library or enjoys its free events should be interested in the Friends of the Library, which is having a membership drive during the month of October.

Students can become members of this group for just $5 a year.

Joining is one way to show a little extra support for everything that the library does for students.

One of the functions of the Friends of the Library is that it picks out the books and media that students often use on their downtime, that aren’t necessarily in the budget the library receives from the state.

Authors who come and give book signings and readings are among the special events organized by the Friends of the Library. The group also sponsors scholarships.

Once a member, a student is eligible to be on library committees and next fall the Friends of the Library Board will need a new student representative.

Staff, faculty and members of the larger community can become a member for $10 a year and take advantage of the same benefits as students.

Once graduated, a student who maintains a membership can use the library and the interlibrary loan services.

For $5 a year, it doesn’t seem like there are many reasons not to join the Friends of the Library, support the services the library provides and get more involved in the events the library puts on.
