Summer plans vary for UNCP studentsSome students may be hitting the highways this summer. (Photo by Elizabeth Butler)

As summer will soon be approaching, students are making decisions about what they will be spending their summer doing. Choices made of summer plans can affect the next few years of their life. There are so many different activitities students have planned for their summer vacation.

There are those students who are graduating and saying good-bye to UNCP. Those students are now thinking about the rest of their lives.

Some students will remain here on campus, going to summer sessions to try to get a few extra hours under their belts. Others have internships to get the valuable work experience required for their graduation. There are also students who have other jobs in retail and food service. They will spend their summer working trying to make a few extra dollars. A few students are planning on enrolling in summer sessions and working, which makes for a full summer schedule.

Then there are those who plan to take the summer off from school and work. Spending time with their friends and families at home and most of all relaxing is all that will be on these students’ agendas. Bike rallies, clubs, and amusement parks are always fun plans for the summer. Don’t forget, getting a tan and going swimming at Myrtle Beach. For those athletes, they finally get a chance to be away from the college life and spend time with their families.

Regardless of what plans are for the summer, my advice is to take some time for yourself. Even if you only take a day or two, it’s worth it. A lot of people take “their” time for granted these days. You have worked hard here at UNCP; now it is time for you to reward yourself.
