Campus set to crown its 60th Miss UNCP

Several contestants will compete Feb. 2 in the 60th Miss UNCP Pageant.
The seven students in the competition are Shanetta Monk, Nivea Mitchell, Arlene Grady, Lauren Mock, Jocelyn Hunt, Saudia Horton and Stephanie Wall.
The requirements for entering the pageant are the ladies must be full time students at UNCP, they must be at least 18 years of age have a 2.0 grade point average, and be a U.S. citizen.
The ladies will be judged on their private interview, on stage question, fitness and lifestyle, talent and evening gown.
The winner of the pageant will receive a $1,000 tuition scholarship, a $1,000 wardrobe allowance for the Miss North Carolina pageant that Miss UNCP will go on to, a class ring gift certificate and free room and board.
The runner-up will receive a $500 scholarship, the second runner-up will receive a ther four contest- ants will receive $100 scholarships.
"As of now the girls practice twice a week, but may increase three to four up until the pageant. And the Wednesday before there will be a full dress rehearsal in GPAC," said Cynthia Oxendine, co-executive director of Miss UNCP.
There is a committee that helps all the contestants with getting ready for the pageant.
The committe members are Robert Canida; Virgil Oxendine; Renee Steele; Frederick Stevenson who is the assistant director; Cynthia Oxendine, co-executive director; Diane Jones, the executive director; Zavery McDougal, the director; and Teresa Bryant, the manager of the pageant.
There will be 6 Miss America certified judges at the pageant, including a chief judge and a novice judge who will be announced at the pageant.
This year there will be a preshow before the pageant that will feature former Miss Pembroke State, Miss Pembroke State University, and the current Miss UNCP, Chasity Chavis.
The preshow will be at 6:30pm and the Miss UNCP Pageant will begin at 7pm.
