Two non-students were arrested for stealing approximately $900 worth of Vera Bradley purses from the bookstore on Nov. 16.
The suspects were both charged on the campus and state charges for larceny on Nov. 16. They were also banned from campus for a year.
The security tags were left under the furniture by the fireplace, according to the crime report.
At 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 16, the suspects returned to the bookstore.
Store employees recognized them from the listserv message and called the Department of Police and Public Safety.
When they were placed under arrest, they made statements, according to the crime report.
The listserv proved itself to be helpful in notifying the campus community about a crime.
“E-mail is really working and we will continue to use it,” Det. Ed Locklear said.
Police found that the male suspect had a warrant out for his arrest in Hoke County.
The Department of Police and Public Safety and the bookstore said they are really pleased with the response received from the e-mail.
Employees can see the camera views on their computer screens.
