“This is America ...there are always going to be people in the community that do extraordinary things...shouldn’t we have a government that reflects the goodness of the American people?” Sen. Bill Bradley asked an audience of 500 at Givens Performing Arts Center on Feb. 25.
Sen. Bradley said that the government is stuck in a “can’t do” attitude.
“It’s an attitude that has pervaded the political process to a depth that is somehow so frightening that people censure their aspirations before they begin,” he said.
According to Sen. Bradley, the way to bring the government back to a “can-do” attitude requires two things:
“Believe in country, not party, and tell people the truth.”
Sen. Bradley represented New Jersey in the U.S. Senate from 1979 to 1997. In 2000, he was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States.
He has also authored six books on American politics and economy.
