On Jan. 23, the SGA welcomed the Animal Savior Klub as UNCP’s newest organization.
The club was started by Lecturer of Health, PE and Recreation Alayna Defalco, whose encounter with a litter of puppies diagnosed with Parvo encouraged her to start an “organization to promote awareness of pet care and responsibility.”
ASK will focus on proper care and management of pets, as well as addressing the importance of spaying and neutering pets.
The club will be hosting a “Valentine’s Dinner and Dance” at the Pinecrest Country Club on Feb. 14.
At the event, there will be a live DJ, raffle and cash bar. The event will also feature author and animal trainer William Berloni.
Tickets will be sold at $100 per couple for faculty and public and $50 per couple for students. Proceeds will go to the Robeson County Humane Society.
In other business, the SGA elected Cassie Vinson as the Senator of the Month. Among other issues discussed were the topics of offering new majors, RA compensation and the possibility of new benefits.
A decision was made to further discuss the issue at the next SGA meeting.
