New cameras increase security at UNCP By Brian Beck
The new cameras have already assisted in one arrest – they caught a suspect in a breaking and entering at Moore Hall. Each camera is displayed on one of two LCD monitors. One monitor is capable of displaying 72 cameras while the other can show 36. Any of the cameras can be clicked to show an enlarged view of the thumbnail. Locklear says that the move to the location in the back of the new bookstore will also include a second monitor capable of showing 72 different cameras at once. The move will happen shortly after the completion of the bookstore in November. Locklear also says that, while there is not a person to watch the monitors all of the time, footage is always recorded. Also, if students see something happening on campus, they can call 910-521-6235 and report it or use one of the emergency phones. “If the phone rings more than three times, it goes straight to the walkie-talkies,” Locklear said. A camera was then pointed towards our post office on campus to make it easier to monitor. |
