Cookout unites campus Greeks

The women of Zeta Tau Alpha hosted an All Greek Cookout Sept. 16 at the Pembroke Pointe apartments clubhouse.
All Greeks from UNCP were encouraged to attend and get to know the other Greek organizations on campus.
Tasia Bobbitt, a senior and social chair of ZTA, said she wanted to host an event that would allow all Greeks to come together, get to know each other as well as increase Greek unity on campus.
Members of Kappa Alpha Psi, Phi Kappa Tau, Theta Xi, Epsilon Chi Nu, and Phi Sigma Nu all came to cook out, go swimming, play volleyball and socialize with fellow Greeks.
“The cook out was a great idea. It gave a chance for organizations that don't usually do things together to come together at the same time in a positive environment.
“I would definitely like to see it done again,” Henry Martin, Theta Xi president, said.
“This was a great way for everyone to get to know each other, so we can support one another at different fundraisers and events we host throughout the year,” Bobbitt said.
Many Greeks on campus know each other by playing intramural sports against each other, and this cookout was another way for everyone to have a good time together.
There are 16 Greek organizations on the UNCP campus. Sara L. Jahansouz, director of the new Office of Greek Life, joined UNCP in June and said that there are many opportunites for growth in Greek life on the UNCP campus.
Other Greek organizations include Sigma Sigma Sigma, Phi Beta Sigma, Alpha Phi Omega, Zeta Phi Beta, Phi Mu Alpha, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Pi Lambda Upsilon, Theta Kappa, Lambda Theta Alpha, Alpha Phi Alpa and Delta Sigma Theta.
