Faculty Row slated to close in 6 years By Shereka BlueAssistant News Editor Changes such as the closure of Braves Drive are occurring throughout campus in hopes to transform UNCP into a walk through campus. Braves Drive separated the Jones Athletic Complex and the University Center until summer 2003. As new buildings are erected in order to accommodate the enrollment growth, some streets are eradicated in order to reach the goal of having a pedestrian campus, according to Steve Martin, the assistant vice chancellor for Business Affairs/Facilities Management. “As we get more and more buildings on campus, the parking lots and concrete areas will get pushed further out,” Martin said. “Our tentative plan for Faculty Row is to reroute the street by the nursing building and behind the Chancellor’s house,” Martin said. “I think it will be a better experience for the students to be able to walk through campus, instead of having the green lawns interrupted by concrete,” he said. |
