Students will now be required to present their Brave card when they are checking items out from the Sampson-Livermore Library. |
Due to, “patron policy being a big thing now,” June L. Power, access services and reference librarian, wanted the ID card idea to be carried out as a rule.
The decision was approved by the library committee last semester in late November.
Since 2004 when Power first arrived, students could check out books simply by giving their names.
According to Power, there are some people on campus with similar names.
To prevent outsiders from coming to the campus library and using false names to check out books, she felt that students should provide their ID cards to check these items out.
Power hopes “to protect student’s privacy and keep records secure” by using ID cards rather than having the student state their name.
Power thought of the idea because of so much identity theft that is going on right now.
Power says it should be second nature for students to have their ID card like their driver’s license.
“I prefer to use my ID card rather than my social,” said sophomore Lindsay Green.
