Professor Emeritus Dr. John Eric Reissner
Dr. Reissner served the university community for more than 30 years as a professor in the Chemistry and Physics department.
Dr. Reissner earned his AB from Harvard University (Biochemical Sciences), and his PhD in chemistry from University of California at San Diego.
“John was a very intelligent man that excelled in many subjects. His impressive education could be noted with the use of his tremendous vocabulary,” said Dr. Jose’ D’Aruda. “John had a wonderful sense of humor, with such kind heart. He never said a bad word about anyone.”
“One of our treasures has left us. John, we’ll miss you,” Chancellor Allen C. Meadors said.
“John will be missed by all those who knew him, the absence of his friendliness, intellect and humor will leave a vacuum all around campus,” D’Aruda said.
He is survived by his wife, Zollene B. Reissner; two children, Steven and Katie Reissner; sister Eva R. Ewing, and husband Martin; two nephews and one niece.
More than 100 faculty and family attended a campus memorial service April 26.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the John E. Reissner Memorial Scholarship Fund at UNCP, or to First Baptist church of Lumberton or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Wilmington
