Local man shot dead in parking lot across the street from UNCP

A shooting March 31 outside of Michael’s restaurant on the corner of West 3rd St. across from the university campus left one local man dead.

The man, whose identity has not been released by authorities, was shot dead at the scene.

“I want the students to know that there was motive to the event. It was not a random drive-by,” said Pembroke police officer Frank Hernandez.

Suspects are being questioned, although no one is in custody.

Hernandez is confident the investigation will end soon.
