Campus Crime Updates By Amanda Hickey Rock damages windshieldWhen the UNCP team bus was on its way back from Washington D.C. on Jan. 30, a vehicle passed it on I-95 and threw up a rock. The rock caused approximately $500 worth of damage to the front windshield, according to Detective Ed Locklear. Kick leads to chargeA student was charged on the campus level with disorderly conduct and damage to state property and on the state level with damage to state property, according to Detective Locklear. "His story is that he was at an off campus party and someone vandalized his vehicle. He was angry and kicked the door," said Locklear. The student has agreed to pay restitution for the door at University Village. Bookstore theft leads to arrestApproximately $200 worth of books was stolen from the Bookstore Feb. 3. Three suspects went into the bookstore, and two left without buying the books. Once the suspects left the bookstore, Karen Swiney, bookstore director, called the police. The police followed the vehicle to Dave's Exxon. "They pulled in and [the officer] pulled in behind them," said Detective Ed Locklear of campus police. The driver was not charged, after the passengers signed a confession stating that he did not know what was happening and that it was a last minute idea. |
