Pembroke is lovin’ McDonald’s

By Curtis Henderson
Staff Writer

“Would you like fries with that?” will soon be heard by many UNCP students. Watch out Burger King, KFC and Huddle House. McDonald’s will open in Pembroke by April of 2005. The McDonald’s will be located on the tract of land right in front of UNCP, beside Huddle House.

The restaurant will serve as a great asset to the university. As of present, students wanting a quick burger and fries have basically two options: Burger King or Hardees. McDonald’s, which is famous for its fries will add a little variety for students seeking a different choice.

The location of the restaurant is also a great incentive for students to drop in for a quick meal. To compete with other restaurants close to campus, the McDonald’s will be in clear walking distance from virtually any building on campus.

Student Michirena Lowry says she is glad the restaurant chain chose Pembroke. She goes on to say that hopefully it will provide jobs in this community. “It will be an affordable outlet for students,” she says.

The restaurant will offer employment opportunities in the Pembroke area and will help to generate economic activity in the community. Students seem to be overwhelmed and eager when they hear that McDonald’s has decided to open a restaurant in the area. While talking with a small group of students, many agreed that McDonald’s would be their number one choice of a fast-food chain to open up in the area.

UNCP student Jamal Whitted says that having a McDonald’s in Pembroke will be very good. “I won’t have to drive all the way to Lumberton for a Big Mac,” Whitted said.

Students get ready for milkshakes, happy meals, quarter pounder cheeseburgers and the famous $1 menu because Mickey D’s is coming to town.
