Pointe Apartments had its first community meeting to discuss
ongoing problems and a few safety tips on the evening of Oct. 6.
Rita Jones,
the apartment manager, and staff organized a community meeting for
all residents to attend that may have any questions, concerns and
ideas. Assistant Chief of Police, First Sergeant Frank Hernandez
and Sergeant Dewayne Hunt held most of the meeting with answering
safety issues including the recent car vandalisms. Although Officer
Hernandez was out during the incident, Jones responded to residents
with an invitation to all victims to attend the court date.
The officers
continued to assure residents that the community was safe and well
controlled. While there is currently not security on site, the Pembroke
police come to observe the apartments every 30 to 40 minutes. Jones
had concerns with the fire extinguishers being played with. Fire
extinguishers are there “for the floor of building. If they
are removed, it will have serious consequences,” she said.
The apartments
are working on trying to get new video cameras for the parking lots
but are costly.
They also warned
students of the $50 tickets given out for cruising on Sundays.
One big concern
at the meeting was noise after 5 p.m. Officers usually give a verbal
warning on the first visit but if they have to return to the same
resident there will be a $125 fine.
“I liked
it. It was informative. I feel safe,” Nathan Moore said.
