Damage to Wellons Hall reported to police

By Amanda Hickey
Staff Writer

Since Feb. 28, there have been a few incidents involving damage to H-Suite in Wellons Hall.

According to the police bulletin, on Feb. 28, the dorm supervisor reported damage to the door of the suite. A resident filed a report with campus police on March 12 that an unknown person had taken screws out of the door in an attempt to unlock H-4, and on March 23 the peep holes to H-1, H-3 and H-4 were removed.

“It sounds like someone is targeting someone in H-Suite and isn’t sure of which room it is,” Det. Ed Locklear of campus police said. “We don’t know if it’s just someone in the suite playing the devil or if it’s someone actually trying to get someone.”

After the report of damage to the door on Feb. 28, a report was filed labeling the damage as vandalism. By the time an officer was sent to the scene to see if they could determine the cause of damage, the door had been fixed, according to Locklear.

After the March 12 incident, another report was filed. In this report the damage was determined to be attempted vandalism.

The perpetrator had “attempted to take the numbers off the door” as well as removing the screws out of the door of H-4, according to Locklear.

The most recent incident was on March 23. Detective Locklear spoke to one of the residents of the H-suite, and the resident said the he had gone to bed around midnight and everything was fine at that point. When he woke up, the peepholes were missing and he reported it to campus police.

“But nobody’s heard anything, nobody’s seen anything,” said Locklear.

Campus police are currently investigating all of these incidents to see if there’s a connection because “there’s been four incidents in the same suite in three months time,” said Locklear.
