A chimney fire occurred Feb. 20 at the residence of Chancellor Allen C. Meadors, which caused minor smoke damage to the interior of his home.
Chancellor Meadors or his wife, the only two home at the time of the incident, sustained no injuries.
The first person to notice a problem was a local unidentified man who noticed sparks coming from the top of the home’s chimney. He quickly notified the chancellor about the problem, at which time the chancellor called campus police for assistance.
The fire was caused by a cap that was placed over the top portion of the chimney, according to the UNCP Pembroke Police Bulletin.
Sergeant Derrick Locklear was the first officer to arrive on the scene. He quickly radioed for assistance from the Pembroke Fire Department who arrived within eight minutes of receiving the call for help.
“With a quick response from both agencies,” Sgt. Locklear said, “we prevented this from becoming a major problem.”
Meadors said the problem has since been fixed.
“All appears to be working well now,” Meadors said. |
