It is that time
of year again! UNC Pembroke’s Homecoming 2005 begins on Monday,
Jan. 31 and goes to Saturday, Feb. 5.
Starting the
week will be homecoming court elections from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday
and then again on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The faculty and
staff versus student basketball game has been scheduled for Feb.
1 in the Main Gym at 7 p.m. and is free to attend.
On Feb. 3 the
Homecoming parade will go through campus and the town of Pembroke
starting at 3:30 and will be followed by the pep rally in the main
gym on campus.
Feb. 4 is Spirit
Day. There will be free play in the game room from
10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and again from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The Platters
will be performing at GPAC from 8 to 10 p.m. later that day. Tickets
are $18 to $20 for the public, $10 for children or students, and
$15 alumni, faculty and staff.
Starting at
9 p.m. and going to 1 a.m. is the Homecoming semiformal dance in
the auxiliary gym. The price for students is $3 and for guests it
is $5.
Then on Saturday,
Feb. 5, the UNC Pembroke men and women’s basketball teams
are set to host the University of North Florida in UNC Pembroke’s
Homecoming games. The women’s game will be first at 2 p.m.
followed by the men at 4 p.m. During halftime of the men’s
game, Darrell Brown and Andrea Miyagi will step down as 2004 Homecoming
King and Queen and turn over their crowns to the 2005 winners. To
add more to this long awaited day, there is a step show at Porter
Plaza at 5:30 p.m.
At 9 p.m. in
the GPAC Gary Owen, the only Caucasian person to ever host BET’s
Comic View, and Rickey Smiley, 2000's host of BET’s Comic
View, will be performing. Tickets are priced at $5 for students,
$10 for alumni and $15 for the general public.
With plenty
of events planned for students, faculty, staff and alumni, this
year is sure to be one of the best!
