Education will not close despite rumors

UNCP closed an office and two closets in the Education Center two weeks ago when Childress Environmental tested the building for mold. The office is expected to reopen by the end of the week and the closets are once again in use.

Vice Chancellor for University and Community Relations Dr. Glen Burnette said, “The office was cleaned immediately and will reopen within a few days.”

Director of Design and Construction, Facility Planning and Construction Bess Tyner said the hygienist has cleared the office; however, the carpet was removed and floor tile must be put down.

The Dial Building is the only known campus structure to have the hazardous Stachybotrys mold according to a University and Community Relations press release on Oct. 30.

“Rumors suggesting that the Education Center or that the entire University will close due to mold are completely false,” University and Community Relations said.

During November, Locklear, Moore Hall and the Nursing building will be tested.
Dormitories will be inspected over winter break and students can expect them to be ready in January.
