WNCP-TV added two teams to its live
sports coverage last week when they broad
cast the wrestling team’s Black and Gold
Clash on Monday, Oct. 27 and the
Wednesday, Oct. 29 volleyball game
against Francis Marion.

The addition of wrestling and volleyball to
the live sports programming doubles the
on-campus station’s schedule.

Games will be shot from the left side of
the gym this year, thanks to fiber-optic
cables that were ordered to be installed by Chancellor Allen Meadors.

The station was televising men’s and women’s basketball games last year when Meadors
realized how many hundreds of yards of cable
was being used to transmit the contests, broadcasting instructor Mike DeCinti said.

WNCP-TV is set on taking advantage of the new tools available to them.

“I’ve always wanted to do more live sports,” DeCinti said. “We have more good, active students to do it now.”

Wrestling coach P.J. Smith is happy about his team getting airtime. He feels that the Braves, currently ranked No. 9 in the NCAA’s Division II preseason rankings, deserve it.

“We’re real excited because wrestling doesn’t get a lot of mainstream publicity,” Smith said. “It’s an Olympic sport and we have a lot of North Carolina guys on our team, so people at home can watch.”
