Students will
attend classes on Saturday, March 20 as a make up for the missed
days in January, Chancellor Allen Meadors decided, with the help
of the Provost’s Office.
The administration
canceled class on Monday, Jan. 26 and Tuesday, Jan. 27 due to an
ice storm that hit the campus with a vengeance. Two periods of classes
were also canceled on the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 28.
The faculty
senate chose the Saturday date during a meeting on Feb. 4, according
to Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. William Gash.
Several dates were offered.
Meadors said
the canceled classes from Tuesday would not need to be made up.
“This,
of course, does not mean that the work will not have to be made
up, just that a full day will not be added to the schedule,”
Meadors said.
The university
requires 75 classroom hours to receive credit in a course and without
the compensating for the missed days; students would not meet the
necessary time frame.
Gash said he
did not understand why students would have a problem with the Saturday
classes.
“Why would
a student want to pay for something and not get it?” Gash
asked. |
