Six contestants will take part in the 52nd Miss UNCP scholarship pageant on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. in GPAC.

Lasting about two hours, the pageant will judge the participants on fitness, talent and eveningwear. The contestants will also be evaluated on an interview session before the night’s event.

There will be a performance by Miss North Carolina 2003 Dana Reason as well as the crowning by Miss UNCP 2003 Robyn Baker.

The contestants include Tara Suzanne Bishop, Jessica Lynn Carter, Erica Nicole Dellinger, Jamillah Jackson, Jessica Ortiz-Carrero and Angela G. Reneau.

The young women have had at least one meeting or rehearsal per week since mid- October.

Pageant consultants have assisted in attire choices as well as helping the contestants to relax by pretending that practices are the actual event.

Contestant Jessica Ortiz-Carrero said the next Miss UNCP will need to have hard-core values.

“I think the next Miss UNCP needs to demonstrate a sense of humility, strength of character and integrity,” she said.

Admission for the pageant is free for students with ID and $5 for the general public.
