The UNCP Student
Publications Board chose new editors for The Pine Needle, the
Indianhead and The Aurochs on April 21.
Editor of The
Pine Needle Nathan Walls will hand over his position to Chris Nicolini,
a senior journalism student who has worked on the paper as sports
editor and web editor.
Pine
Needle faculty advisor Dr.
Judy Curtis said she and the staff members are eager to see
the improvements Nicolini will make to the strong foundation already
created.
“Chris
is an excellent choice,” said Curtis. “The outgoing
editor, Nathan Walls, guided the paper through tremendous improvements
in the last two years. The entire staff is excited about the enthusiasm
and knowledge Chris brings to the job.”
Nicolini said
he hopes to build off the foundation left by Walls.
“Nathan
has built a solid foundation under The Pine Needle during his two
years as editor, turning the publication from a glorified BSU student
newspaper and dumping ground for 105 and 106 English class papers
into a reputable source for news concerning UNCP,” Nicolini
said.
Current Indianhead
editor and English major Andrea Patawaran-Hickman will have the
help of co-editor Cotina Ames next semester. Ames is a mass communications
major.
Ames said she hopes having two editors will help to complete the
yearbook earlier.
Senior Nathan
Graham will take over The Aurochs from Jenny Teague, who has made
many improvements this year.
Graham said
he has many new plans he hopes to make to The Aurochs.
“I intend
to make a genuine attempt to provide visibility to The Aurochs and
allow students the opportunity to enjoy literature and art,”
Graham said. “This I believe is the primary function and the
highest purpose of a four-year institution, to instruct students
not merely on how to earn a living, but how to live a life.”
